Hydrometallurgy involves leaching metal ions from used battery cathode materials by selecting appropriate acidic or alkaline media, and then obtaining valuable metals such as lithium, cobalt, and manganese through precipitation, organic matter extraction, separation, and purification.
At present, wet recycling of nickel, cobalt, and manganese metals in lithium-ion batteries has been industrialized. The mainstream technology for recovering lithium is acid leaching of lithium-containing waste materials, extraction and impurity removal, and extraction of metal nickel, cobalt and manganese. The lithium remains in the raffinate, and the raffinate is precipitated with sodium carbonate to obtain lithium carbonate. The recovery rates of aluminum, copper, cobalt and lithium in this process are 98%, 96.53%, 94.94% and 86.98% respectively. Various valuable components can be fully recycled, and the quality of each recycled product can meet relevant national or corporate standards.
The process flow of solvent extraction-precipitation method to extract and recover valuable metals such as nickel, cobalt, and lithium from waste lithium-ion batteries has become mature. In particular, the CWL-M centrifugal extractor can currently be used as the core extraction equipment, which not only achieves high extraction efficiency, but also produces high purity products, is also energy-saving and environmentally friendly, and greatly improves the operating environment for workers.
