Current Status of NMP Wastewater Treatment

NMP can be miscible with water in any ratio, has high boiling point, flash point and strong solubility, so it is not easy to separate and recover directly from NMP aqueous solution. Its recovery methods mainly include flash evaporation and solvent extraction.

Due to the special physical and chemical properties of NMP, flash evaporation and extraction of NMP from a solution with a high water content will consume a lot of heat energy, resulting in energy waste. Solvent extraction technology has the advantages of simple equipment, large extraction capacity, high separation efficiency and low production cost. Therefore, solvent extraction is suitable for industrial application.

NMP Wastewater Treatment By Centrifugal Extractor

Wastewater containing NMP is fully mixed with the extractant in the centrifugal extractor. Since wastewater and the extractant are immiscible, there are two liquid phases in the centrifugal extractor: the extractant and the wastewater. The mixing creates a large phase interface, allowing the two phases to fully contact, and NMP is selectively extracted by the extractant (chlorinated hydrocarbon) and separated from the wastewater, thereby achieving the purpose of separating and extracting NMP.

Working Principle and Process of Centrifugal Extractor

Centrifugal extractor is a highly efficient extraction equipment that uses centrifugal force to achieve liquid-liquid two-phase extraction and separation. This equipment can achieve multiple functions, such as liquid-liquid two-phase mixed mass transfer, reaction, extraction, washing, separation, etc.

Tiei Extraction's centrifugal extractor adopts an upper suspension structure and a fully sealed design. The two-phase liquid is fed through the mixing and stirring chamber below. The machine above the drum is mainly composed of transmission parts, drum parts, shell and frame.

The two immiscible liquid phases (raw liquid and extractant) enter the drum from the two feed ports, and mix rapidly as the drum rotates, and then gradually transfer the extraction components in the aqueous feed phase to the extractant. In the drum, the mixed liquid flows from bottom to top, the light phase moves toward the center of the rotor, and the heavy phase moves toward the inner wall of the rotor. The separated light and heavy liquid phases are respectively collected into the light and heavy phase collection chambers through the light and heavy phase weirs, and discharged from their respective outlets.
